A’Ibom APC Chair dies in clash with PDP supporters over largesse

The Ward Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), John Monday Marcus, of  Ward-2 in Ukanafun local government area,  Akwa Ibom state has been reportedly killed in a bloody fight with a faction of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with APC in the area.

It was gathered that trouble started when a popular politician from the ward who recently  defected to APC in the ward donated money to the party to appreciate grassroot leaders; however, the APC ward chairman allegedly hijacked the cash,  while PDP members resisted before a brawl ensued.

An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, said even APC members were annoyed by the action of the late ward chairman and descended on him as they smashed his head using a broken bottle, resulting in a free-for-all fight at the venue of the meeting.

Family members of the deceased have expressed shock over the incident and the  All Progressives Congress (APC)  in the area have described the death of the ward chairman as shocking to the entire APC in the State.

An issued statement signed by Ukanafun  chapter Publicity Secretary of the APC, Hon. Stanley Sunday Peter and made available  to newsmen in Uyo said the death of Late John Monday Marcus has not only shocked party members in the ward but has also reverberated throughout the entire APC family in area and beyond.

In a telephone  interview , the Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the incident and assured that the police will carry out an investigation on the matter. ”Yes we are aware of the incident, and investigation is ongoing to bring perpetrators of the crime to book”, he stated.
